Yes, I read this as well. Pretty awful.
Quite seperate from this, I don’t know why, but I’ve never really taken to AlterNet. Part of it is aesthetic — I don’t like the way it feels cluttered at the top, and the way the comment threads collapse, which reminds me of Live Journal. But I also feel it’s a bit too professional and mainstream. Doesn’t feel like a blog to me and that’s my main priority…

I agree there is something strange about Alternet. It is trying too hard to blend blogging and actual journalism, maybe?
