Back again to bother you with a follow-up: I've added the Bent Chetler 100 (180cm) to serious consideration along with the Sky 7 and Alchemist Wailer 100 and was curious if you think the BC 100 could be a good compromise in quality/playfulness as well as price. The 112 is more of a specialist ski, so you kind of have to decide if you want that, as it will limit your versatility, and you still won't have a more playful alternative to the 95. Always with a caveat, the 94 did lack that top-end stability that a Mantra will have, just a function of the carbon versus the metal at the end of the day. That said, I was very impressed with the flotation and playfulness of the 100--more so than I thought for sure. My favored terrain is soft-powder bumps or powder, but these last few years I found great joy in perfecting my high edge angle carve turns. Get the most out of your all-mountain 100mm selection with a ski that makes your skiing easier and higher performance. Not many skiers choose to ski or even have access to big, wide open terrain where they can open up the speed limit. SE. I'm a Look Pivot (15 or 18) snob personally, and some people really like the higher DIN versions of the aforementioned bindings, but most expert skiers should get all they need from a 13 DIN binding like the Griffon or Attack. Losing effective edge length and contact with the snow typically results in a fairly unstable feel for me, especially on firm snow, but the Wailer 100 Alchemist RP feels smooth and relatively powerful. The Wailer sounds like a perfect ski for me, except that I am @190 lbs at 6'3". I'd say the flexibility of the Origin 96 makes it better for trees for a heavier skier, but lighter skiers will prefer the weight-saving DPS and its carbon build. The 179 will be lighter and quicker, so if that's the performance you're going for, I'd stick to that! The DPS has more of an automatic type feel that guides you and brings you through turns while the Mantra really needs to be pushed and driven. I live in Vail, and I am 6’1″ 185 lbs. I think that if you're skiing the mid-lengths of that ski, like the 171 or 179, where in other skis a 15-meter radius would be about average/expected, you can open it up as such. It's responsive in and out of a carving turn, holds an edge well, and far surpassed my expectations on firm snow for a ski like this. We generally test on the line, unless it's a park ski or something like that. Hope that helps! I loved the composure of the DPS for its weight, but found I couldn't quite let it rip like the Mantra. The new design has a slightly longer effective edge than their “RP” skis like the Wailer 100 or Wailer 112. Have fun! I do, however, think the latter describes a significantly bigger percentage of the skiing population. Sick Day is kind of meh, I found, but maybe I was just in a bad mood that day. Hi Jared! Now, while I didn't have huge expectations for it on firm snow, I expected it to be an absolute blast in tighter terrain like our east coast trees. Hi SkiEssentials Wow this sounds like a fun ski. DPS seems to generally state that the Foundation skis are more forgiving and less responsive. The BC 100 is pretty soft in the tips and tails versus the DPS which is on the stiffer side. The 15 m turn radius is really fun, too. I have the Kastle fx95hp 181 as an only ski right now, and I’m looking to have a second pair of skis that are more playful so I am considering the wailer.
