For now on the Oak, anglers seem to be hooking up on a few steelhead nearest the dam that came along with the higher flows of a few weeks ago mixed in with a handful of fresh fish trickling in thru the downstream fast water. Dam action has been spotty, but there are people hooking up. Not a whole lot of reports coming back in for the Oak but now with flows that are a little more easily drifted guys should be into a few browns or steelhead. We are generally most confident in our Oak interpretations, less so in the other area smaller tribs. More upcoming windy systems produce stirred inshore water which releases river scent so expect more incoming big fish! The Clubs cooperation with out of the area fishermen is truly above board and greatly appreciated by all! The next spate of water could bring in the fresh spring steelhead looking for warmer water. Read slightly high and slightly stained with lots of good water cover for steelhead to be anywhere they want to be in the watercourses and good drifting chances. Not a dozen hook ups for a morning effort, but at least a few that might include a couple steelhead or a couple browns. Spawning fish like this can be found in the gravel runs if you choose to target them or else find the real action in adjacent holes for the staged or drop back fish. With fair to good bolstered flows from the Erie Canal guys are reporting good brown trout action with a green King here and there and/or a sporty colorful coho. Inside water has been sporadic. Flows in the Oak are high and stained with about 1 foot of visibility. Saturday was a brief morning trip.
